Walk with Jesus Our Living Hope

Dear Families,

In this week’s Gospel, Jesus’ parable talks about the servants who were entrusted with his money. The first and second servant received talents and used them and gained more, the third servant hid the talents received and did not do anything with it.

His master said to him, “Well done, good and trustworthy servant; you have shown you are trustworthy in small things; I will trust you with greater; come and join in your master’s happiness.”– Matthew 25:23

In the parable, talents actually refers to money or coins that was given, but when I was in the classroom and would try and have the students connect to it, we actually talked about their God-given talents and how they could share it with the world. When the students are younger, it is easier for them to talk about all the amazing and wonderful things they can do. As they get older, they are more self conscious and they don’t talk as enthusiastically about their amazing skills. Maybe it is because they start to compare themselves to their peers. No longer do they see themselves as fast runners or great artists but they start to refer to themselves as “not the fastest” or “I can’t do it as well as so-and-so”.

It is so important to remind them that God loves them no matter what. He wants us to use our talents for good, to share what we have and who we are with others. It is not the size of what we give but what is in our hearts when we do it.

May God bless you and keep you safe.

Yours In Christ
