Response to Residential Schools

From St. Patrick’s School

Please read carefully:

In light of the recent and tragic news regarding the discovery of the loss of 215 children at the Kamloops Residential School, we want to express our collective sense of deep sadness and shock.

Today staff and students at St. Patrick’s School wore orange shirts to honour those who suffered trauma and harm at the former residential school, and their families and communities who are mourning. We observed a moment of silence and prayed together as a community.

We did not go through all the details of what has happened with our students, as we believe that families are the best to address this situation. We ask for your assistance in helping them process these atrocities in an age and developmentally appropriate manner. As we collect educational resources from CISVA, we will forward them along to you to help your discussions at home in as much depth as your family is comfortable.

Let us continue to pray for the victims, the First Nations community and the continued efforts for true reconciliation.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Maria Fonseca
